About

I’m Morné Pienaar, an architect and urbanist currently working as a design and creative director with a large multidisciplinary firm in Dubai. Across 25 years of practice in Africa and the Middle East, my work has explored the connections between architecture, landscape, people and place.

My interests extend into archaeology and anthropology: how people inhabit landscapes, build settlements and give places meaning over time. Urbanism, art and culture inform the way I read a site and develop its architectural narrative.

I see architecture as a material art and a poetic act of making. My practice brings together research, intuition, drawing and emerging technologies to create places grounded in their context, with a clear identity and a lasting connection to the people who use them.
